OUR STORY

Mindful in Art was created to give children a calm, nurturing space where they can slow down, express themselves, and reconnect with their sense of joy and confidence. Many young people carry worries, pressures, or difficult feelings. Creativity offers them a gentle way to explore those feelings, without the intensity of talking directly about them.

How It Started

Through years of working with children, I noticed something consistent: when children were given time, freedom, and simple materials to explore, they relaxed. Their breathing softened. They opened up. They took risks, made choices, and discovered new things about themselves.
It became clear that art isn’t just “making something nice.” It’s a process that helps children regulate, express emotions, and build trust in themselves. Mindful in Art was born from the belief that every child deserves a space like this, especially those who don’t always feel understood or confident.

What We Believe

Children don’t need perfect results. They need the courage to explore and the reassurance that their ideas matter.
We believe:
-
every child is creative from the moment they’re born
-
creativity thrives when there’s freedom to play
-
art doesn’t have to be liked or approved of by others
-
the value is in the process — the experimenting, the choices, the joy
-
the more children play, the more confident and skilled they naturally become

The Way We Work

Our approach is gentle, slow-paced, and child-led. Because it’s not like a traditional classroom, children tend to feel more open, relaxed, and able to take in the wellbeing messages woven throughout the sessions.
We focus on:
-
creating calm, emotionally safe spaces
-
offering simple materials that encourage imagination
-
guiding children to notice how they feel as they create
-
celebrating effort and experimentation
-
building confidence through play
-
supporting emotional understanding without pressure

As children make decisions in their artwork, they learn to trust their voice and experience a sense of agency and calm that supports their wellbeing long after the session ends.

OUR APPROACHES

1. Child-Led Creativity
Children choose their materials, their ideas, and the direction of their work. This helps them develop independence, confidence, and the joy of discovering what they can create when there’s no pressure to be “right.”

2. Mindful Making
We guide children to slow down, notice the process, and enjoy the act of creating. This helps them regulate emotions, build awareness of their feelings, and find calm through simple, grounding activities.

3. Trauma-Informed Practice
Everything is designed with emotional safety in mind. Sessions are predictable, gentle, and supportive. Children can take part in ways that feel comfortable, with no expectation to share more than they want to.

4. Playful Experimentation
We encourage children to try things, change things, layer things, and explore freely. Mistakes are part of the fun — a natural part of the learning and creative process.

5. Confidence Through Process
Because we focus on exploration rather than perfect outcomes, children feel safe to take creative risks. Over time, this naturally builds self-belief and a sense of pride.

6. Connection and Belonging
Our sessions create a soft, welcoming atmosphere where children feel seen and supported. This sense of belonging helps them engage more deeply and take in the wellbeing messages within the activities
